Health and wellbeing

Funding level: £5,001 to £10,000

We would like to utilise the money in support of an annual sports festival held within Trowbridge Park, we aim to work with key partners including the local town council and the local authority in the deliver of a programme of free sporting, health and child friendly activities designed to engage attendees allowing them to try new sports, have access to health trainers and coaching providers. The aim of the festival is to ensure access to a wide variety of sports specifically those that the local community do not have access to on a regular basis, utilising resources such as mobile BMX tracks, mobile climbing walls, ice skating, roller rinks and laser shooting and to work with community partners in local sports clubs, such as Avon Valley Running Club, Trowbridge Rugby Club, Staverton Rangers and Infinity Dance attendees can engage with these local sporting clubs to provide long term exit routes to club sports, sporting facilities such as the park tennis court and voluntary opportunities.
The event has had such a positive impact on the local community in the past feedback from members of the public has included :
'Please do it again next year, the kids loved it but missed out on trying a few things and were gutted. Great event for the whole community', ' Was an amazing day you guys done a fab job organising it my kids absolutely loved it so a big thank u for a fantastic day', ' Thank you for having infinity dance. The children had a good day and got lots of dance in'. The event fosters and encourages pride in the community and demonstrate strong engagement not only with the Trowbridge community but from the surrounding towns and the reputation of the event is such that in 2018 it drew people in from Bristol ‘We came from Bristol, well worth the drive!’ it is important to develop these relationships as Trowbridge has 12 different cultural groups within our community and parts of the town are recorded in the latest report by the Wiltshire Community Foundation from 2014 as being in the national top 5% most deprived areas in the UK.
This event therefore provides access for all regardless of their social and economic circumstances to a range of sports activities, health providers and voluntary services it raises aspirations of the entire local community and is a positive force for encouraging their personal health and well-being supporting them through sport.
