Health and wellbeing

Funding level: Up to £1,000

Welcome to Chesham United Youth Football Club – home to over 20 youth football teams ranging from u5s to u18s. Under the guidance and encouragement of 30 FA qualified coaches we provide football training and games for over 300 local children every week.

We aim to inspire every child to the best of their ability to participate, enjoy and play football with a smile in a safe, secure and protected environment. Each of our coaches are CRB checked and we teach football the "Chesham United way" where inclusivity is as important as technical skills.

All of our coaches and committee members are volunteers, from the community for the community. We have no paid staff. Everyone who contributes to this organisation does it for the true love of helping within the local community. We believe football can have a hugely positive impact on children from all backgrounds, not to mention the importance of keeping active and being healthy.

We believe in encouraging children of all abilities, boys and girls into football. It is certainly not about the winning, it is very much about the taking part. Our aim is not only to develop football skills but also to positively contribute to their lives and to society as a whole. We are hoping to expand as a club with long term plans to introduce more teams and improve our playing facilities. Our club has set values which are instilled into all our players. These include being honest, considerate and respectful to each other and the opposition. We are working to be recognised on and off the pitch as a fun club to be part of and proud of.

Future of the club
There are many expenses connected with running a football club and we rely on subscriptions, local business sponsors, parental support and the fundraising efforts of our dedicated people within the community.

This season we have managed to move to a new playing facility at Marston Field on the outskirts of Chesham. This has enabled us to provide pitches for all age groups up to u13s in a single location in line with our objective of being "One Club". This is a step in the right direction, but we now need to invest in funds to get the site properly up and running.

There is currently no secure equipment storage facility on site, parking is limited and there are no facilities for supporters or players such as toilets or changing rooms. The site is also governed by green belt restrictions.
We have outlined a short, medium and long term vision, which ultimately ends with building a modern club house to serve as a multi-purpose facility for wider use by the whole of the local community. However there are a series of interim steps to get us there. Medium term, we would like to have a storage container to securely store equipment and invest in grass matting to allow additional parking on site.

Our immediate goal is to make it simpler and easier to put training & matches on at Marston. With support from Aviva we would like to invest in equipment to help us. Currently coaches and parents have to ship equipment such as goals, corner flags, respect barriers and balls from storage at the site of our adult football club located 2 miles away.

We would like to invest in some inflatable match approved goals which are lightweight, portable and can be set up in minutes. Additionally we would like to buy some portable, lithium battery floodlights to allow us to train in darkness during the winter. It is envisaged that the future costs savings from not having to hire as many astro-turf sessions will then go some way to funding our medium and longer term vision.

Whilst it would be amazing to be successful in our pursuit of an award from Aviva, we continue to work to raise funds in other ways. Parents continue to sell teas and coffees in the rain at the weekend, children bake cakes to provide treats for hungry supporters, and our social committee are busy arranging our next race night. All goes to show we really are a club for everyone!
