Health and wellbeing

Funding level: Up to £1,000

At the RGSHW we are proud to offer all boys from year 8 and above the opportunity to learn to row, train and compete - a fantastic offering in a State school. Most boys join as complete novices and progress to competing at a range of levels, from local regattas to The National Schools Regatta at Eton Dorney and the British Junior Rowing Championships in Nottingham. A select few have even gone on to participate in GB trials. We think we really punch above our weight!

This award would allow us to move closer to our goal of buying an additional boat and trailer. It would allow more boys to train and compete (boat sharing can be tricky at a regatta if races are close together). A new boat would also put our crews on a more level pegging with crews from wealthier clubs. We are looking for a boat that will support the boys' development for another 10 - 15 years so we plan to get our money’s worth.

This year 91 boys have trained and learned to row with us. A new trailer would allow us to get more of our boats and therefore boys to the competitions.

We have a highly committed group of boys, coaches and parents and have been successful at all levels. We have boys on the water or land training 7 days a week - pretty impressive for a school set-up.

The Club has been going since 1954. Please vote for us to enable us to have a strong and bright future.

Moment of Pride

Our club has grown strongly over the last four years and we have seen our membership more than triple. We have done fantastically well to stretch our existing equipment and coaching in response. We are really proud to be able to offer a great sporting experience to those who come in our direction.
