Health and wellbeing

Funding level: Up to £1,000

We need a generator to provide lighting and run power-tools which are essential for boat maintenance and we often finish rowing at dusk and need to access our boathouse safely.

Goring Gap Boat Club (GGBC) is a Community and Amateur Sports Club whose mission is to promote recreational activities (mainly rowing) on the Thames. We aim to make rowing accessible and affordable to everyone, catering for all ages from 14 to 70 plus, and break down the preconceptions that the sport is highly competitive and for the few.

After many years of being homeless, our club has a boathouse which we can call home, but it is just a basic shell. With the help of many dedicated volunteers we have been able to develop the site so that we can start rowing in November, but we have run out of funds.

Due to the remote location, we have no mains services. The funds are for a generator and LED floodlights as well as emergency style lights to give basic lighting whilst the generator is started.

We are a club totally run by volunteers, who are both club members and people from the community. Our new boathouse is in the heart of the community, and with the help of this fund we will be able to make a club that everyone can enjoy. We have achieved so much but people should vote for our project because we need your help. We give people the opportunity to get involved in a low impact sport, keeping them healthy and active. We want to continue to be a real asset to the local community.

Moment of Pride

We are proud to have supported so many people locally - teaching them how to row, holding events to involve the community in water sports, and getting people of all ages active. All of this is possible only through the dedication of volunteers who help maintain boats, coach beginners, run events.
