Skills for life

Funding level: £5,001 to £10,000

Supported by: Bullerwell & Co Ltd

Description

Project Name: Computer Confidence
New technologies offer great learning, skill-building and social opportunities for people with learning disabilities enabling them to access a more rewarding and fulfilling life.
Our project will increase the confidence of people with learning disabilities by improving their computer skills alongside developing reading, writing and IT abilities and knowledge.
A £10,000 grant will fund 4 computer skill-building sessions a week, benefitting more than 60 people with learning disabilities. Each session will be supported by a tutor and learning assistant and volunteers.
This project will open doors to a world of new talents, abilities and achievements for people with learning disabilities at MK Snap.
Our computer skills project will also provide training in recognising the dangers of using the internet and social networking sites. We know that the internet can also be a really useful communication and entertainment tool, combatting social isolation and loneliness. However, this access also increases the vulnerability of people with learning disabilities to the perils of cybercrime.
Our project will help people with learning disabilities protect themselves against internet crime and abuse. The funding will enable us to provide the support needed to help people with learning disabilities recognise danger and how to safeguard themselves. Current information is either for children and young people or adults, very little is available for people with learning disabilities.
