Health and wellbeing

Funding level: £10,001 to £25,000

In 1975 the PTA funded and built an outdoor swimming pool at Broadmayne First School, used by the school children during term time and open to the public during summer holidays. The PTA, now known as FABS, continues tirelessly to raise funds to keep the pool running and heated - entirely through voluntary effort. The Local Education Authority policy does not fund school pools. However, the pool infrastructure is getting increasingly dilapidated. In order to make the pool more cost efficient and environmentally friendly, we are looking to replace a dilapidated pump room building with a toilet, chemical room /pump room and solar panels. The cost to remove the old building (with asbestos roof) and replace with the new building is quoted at £40,000. All permissions are in place to do this (including Building Regs Conditional Approval). This together with major repairs to the pool itself will help maintain this wonderful resource for years to come, which otherwise will be under threat of closure. Not only will children continue to leave the school able to swim - vitally important in a coastal community - but with a toilet installed on site and upgraded facilities, we will be able to reach a wider section of the community and make the pool available for private hire. We hope to include people with special needs. Please help us Save our Swimming (S.O.S!)

Moment of Pride

The school pool runs entirely by voluntary effort, fundraising, Reach and Rescue Training and supervising sessions. We are all very enthusiastic and proud of this wonderful resource, and want to keep it going and expand its use for future generations and make it into a real 'community' facility.
