Funding level: Up to £1,000

Marsden cricket club offers junior cricket to ages ranging from under 9s through to under17s. We currently have 4 qualified coaches who give up their personal time through the summer to help coach the children, and organise them on match days. Our aim is to help them improve their cricketing skills in an enjoyable manner with the main focus being on them having fun.

The junior section of the club has been well received within the community for a number of years, with volunteers doing a great job of visiting local schools and introducing them to the game at a young age and inviting them to come try cricket. We currently have an under 9s group with over 20 children coming up on a Tuesday evening learning cricket, having lots of fun and making new friends.

In 2014 we had a strong group of under 9s who were sucessful in becoming Huddersfield junior champions. This group are still together, still enjoying the game and had another great season this year coming runners up in the under 13s.

The aim of this project is to a) put new volunteers through their coaching qualification and b) improve the quality of the equipment used in training.

With one of our coaches coming up to retirement and our cricket equipment being the bare minimum needed, this money will really come in handy to give our community the opportunities to get involved in cricket from a young age.

Moment of Pride

Personally I played junior cricket through all ages before playing open age for the club. My son is now in the under 11s and I am a now a volunteer coach. I am proud to be associated with this great club and especially the great work being done with the junior section.
