Health and wellbeing

Funding level: £1,001 to £5,000

Our Social cafe will be for adults with mental health conditions in the Bedford area. It will form part of a larger project which will include an Enterprise Hub for the same group of adults and will be a place where they can learn about enterprise and even take qualifications which will help move them closer to independence.

We all know that mental ill-health is on the rise. We want to help by providing a small and safe place for adults who want to learn about enterprise and gain some qualifications.

What would be nicer than to share a coffee with friends after a learning session, or have a sandwich lunch with others on the same course. Well, if you are experiencing problems with mental health that's not so easy. Our cafe will be a place where the learners can feel safe while doing what many of us take for granted - relaxing with friends in a cafe.

Our project will give adults who find it difficult to go the larger providers, like colleges, a place where they can learn and become more independent. It will give them a social space where they can relax without the difficulty of walking into a crowded town centre cafe. Some of them will even get to do work experience in the cafe and learn more new skills as they make new friends. We know that they enjoy coming to Youth Inspired because they have told us so. This will add an important new dimension to their experience with us.
Some of the learners will take part in some of our really successful art and enterprise courses. The cafe will be a place where the work they produce can be displayed and even sold. What a confidence boost that will be!

The money we are asking for will provide a cafe style coffee maker, a toaster, sandwich toaster, kettle, microwave, cutlery and crockery which will make all this possible. It will enable us to make the cafe an attractive place to come and meet friends or just relax after a session learning in the Enterprise Hub. The Hub and cafe will be located near to Bedford town centre in our centre in Newnham Street.

Please help us provide this safe space by voting for us now. It really will make a difference.

Moment of Pride

We are proud of this project because we know that adults with mental health conditions need opportunities to learn in safe spaces and to socialize there too. The artworks they produce in the Enterprise Hub will be on display there too and many of them will be sold which will be great for them too.
