Community support

Funding level: £5,001 to £10,000

Foxglove Covert Local Nature Reserve covers 100 acres of moorland edge in Catterick
with a remarkable mix of habitats and species. The reserve has a special interest in
community involvement and education, aiming to involve, inspire and motivate. The
reserve attracts over 20,000 visitors each year from the local community and further afield.

Having just celebrated its twenty fifth anniversary, Foxglove Covert was also the star
attraction in Tony Robinson’s TV programme “Coast to Coast” further emphasising its
national importance and significant value as a first-class resource in the community. Each
year 2,000 young people visit on school and other educational visits. The project has
myriad volunteering opportunities and works hard to integrate and engage civilian and
armed forces communities in the area. Last year, 2,598 volunteer days took place. As an
award-winning reserve, Foxglove attracts attention from all over the United Kingdom and
internationally as a model of best practice. Our project will see more activities for members of the local community as it continues to grow.

Over the coming year we expect to welcome more than 20,000 visitors, work with at least 50 new community volunteers who will take part in conservation activities across the reserve, learning new skills and playing a vital role. We also expect to see around 2,000 young people taking part in educational visits learning about our mosaic of habitats and the diverse wildlife.

Foxglove Covert is a special, magical place where we aim to inspire, educate and motivate our community.

Foxglove Covert Local Nature Reserve

Moment of Pride

Foxglove Covert would not exist without the thousands of hours of community support that go into maintaining and developing this Local Nature Reserve each year, conserving this special environment for future generations to come, showing that communities really can make a difference working together.
