Health and wellbeing

Funding level: £10,001 to £25,000

Description

We plan to run a well being project called HARMONY for children, young people, adults and their families, it will be based in Nottingham; in summary it is a Therapeutic support provision. HARMONY stands for the coming together and blending of services to holistically impact the lives of children, young people and their families (emotional, physical, psychological and social wellbeing); we understand that no one service can have maximum impact on the lives of children and young people, but together, and with other organisations (learning and social care), we anticipate that lasting changes will be made all round. HARMONY will run various wellbeing and learning services which will primarily support children and young people with aspects of their development that have been neglected by some mainstream, alternative learning provisions, training establishments and workplaces due to their lack of resources and capacity particularly for additional emotional, sensory and psychological needs. The wellbeing project will accept referrals for children/young people aged 5-18 (up to 25 years old for children/young people with additional needs, and with additional support services for their families. The service will be for those who struggle to positively engage in education, society and family life due to behavioural, emotional, learning needs or disabilities. The project will run between Monday-Saturday at a community centre in Nottingham, 10am-3pm; the placements will be flexible and dependent on their specific needs and current education arrangements. We will offer one to one counselling/group counselling, couples/family counselling, emotionally focused play; this counselling approach is for children aged 5-11 years old and is used to explore feelings and emotions through play. Some of the other services that will be a part of children/young people’s placements as mentioned above are: issue related workshop programmes; Blossom Workshops and B.R.A.V.E. Workshops (those aged 11-25 years old), specialist 1:1 tutoring; mentoring, movement and dance sessions, my space – social sensory groups; sensory play, SEAL groups, careers advice, transitional support and the Bridge project; ‘Bridge Project’ is a breakthrough programme that intervenes early to ensure that young people with disabilities/behavioural and additional needs make a successful transition from school to work, further education or training. We want our well being project to equally support families as they face the challenges of parenting/caring for children/young people with additional needs; these are some of the additional services we will offer: parenting programmes, befriending/community care support workers and 1:1 advise/guidance. We plan to extend our services to the community by offering mobile and in-house support for other organisations that work with children/young people with additional needs, these will include, consultancy, training, social work and motivational speakers. Our project will be advertised at all local organisations that work with children, young people and their families, they will be given a handbook detailing the HARMONY project including how to make referrals. We will accept local authority, professional and self- referrals (i.e. by parents/carers), following referral there will be a comprehensive assessment by the project manager or deputy project manager whereby a therapeutic support package will be agreed dependent on the child/young persons needs. The packages offered will be Therapy 1,2,3 (T1,2,3), Sensory 1,2,3 (S1,2,3) or Therapy&Sensory 1,2,3 (TS1,2,3); the differences in these packages will be the level of intensity (i.e. time spent on the project per week) and main focus of need for the placement. Placements will be reviewed monthly and evaluated with a written report including recommendations for additional or further support when the agreed placement time has come to an end.
