Description

Albert Primary School is a school in Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan; currently working with approximately 460 pupils. The school has a very active PTA, which raises funds for much needed materials, equipment and experiences; enhancing the learning opportunities of the children.

For the last 13 years Albert Primary School has put on an end of year production of a very high standard, involving Year 6 pupils as the main cast and the rest of the juniors (Years 3-5) in various supporting roles. In recent years the school has staged productions such as Oliver, Beauty and the Beast, Annie, Peter Pan, Cats, Hairspray and Fame. In 2014 the pupils were very privileged to be able to perform Oliver at Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff.

Through the support of the PTA, the school has previously been able to provide professional costumes, lighting and sound systems for the above mentioned productions. School budgets are becoming tighter and tighter, with increasing demand to do more with less. The demand on PTA funds is, therefore, also now increasing, but with the support of the Aviva Community Fund we feel we can further enhance the amazing opportunities the school seeks to provide for the children through the summer production.

This academic year, Years 3 to 6 will be working on the junior version of Mary Poppins, which will be performed in the theatre at the local secondary school, Stanwell, on 16th and 17th July 2018. The licensing company has confirmed that Albert Primary is the first primary school in the UK to secure the performance rights with them for this production of Mary Poppins Jr, so this is an incredibly exciting opportunity for everyone involved.

Through the school productions pupils are challenged to perform at a high standard, and all Year 6 pupils are encouraged to work collaboratively in roles both on and off the stage. Often it is the quieter children who really shine, as they are able to perform as a character rather than be themselves. Many of the children show improved self-esteem, increased confidence and a can-do attitude. The school has received significant feedback over the years about how the children conduct themselves in the theatre, and the confidence they display while on stage, often in front of an audience of 400+.

Many of our pupils leave school as confident individuals, eager to get involved in drama at secondary level, with many of them going on to secure lead roles in their future school productions.

Please vote for our project to enable us to give our pupils the opportunity to develop a wealth of skills and experience, along with a sense of collective achievement and the inspiration to do their best.

Albert Primary School PTA

Moment of Pride

The PTA feels very proud to support the school in providing the extra-curricular activities that the children are able to experience. The commitment and dedication shown by the children and staff of the school is outstanding, and this shines through in the delivery of the summer production.
