Description

We are a Brownie pack in Coleshill Warwickshire which is currently full with a waiting list. As part of Girlguiding, Brownies is the section for girls aged 7 to 10. It gives the Brownies a place to meet other girls from the area, take part in different activities and earn interest badges.

We are totally organised and run by volunteers who give up their time to enable girls to have this experience. Parents pay a regular subs payment which covers rent on the community centre, an annual census to Girlguiding and materials for weekly meetings.

If we are successful in getting the community fund, we would like to use it to expand the experiences we can offer the girls in 2018. It would enable us to do more activities outside of our regular meeting place and encourage our girls to be active showing them that exercise can be fun. It would also allow us to get experts in to share their knowledge occasionally to give more variety to the programme we offer. This grant will ensure we remain inclusive by making the events affordable to all parents. The sort of activities we would like to offer them are:
Swimming - taking the girls swimming so they can earn their swim and/or swim advance badges.
Rock climbing - Rock climbing experience which is great exercise and lots of fun.
Roller Skating - An evening where we bring in someone to help the girls try out Roller skating.
Farm Visit - Visit a local farm which has lots of green areas and children parks as well as animals to see and learn about.
Games & BBQ - An evening of outdoor games with BBQ.

Girls having different experiences together, builds social relationships between the girls who come from 5 different schools over the area. Friendships are formed that last over the years. All of these activities involve either learning new skills or developing existing ones.

Leaving all HI tech equipment at home, in a modern age where there is concern about the amount of time children are spending on 'screens', we show them that getting outdoors and getting active is much more fun than sitting indoors on screens and although technology does have its place it is not an essential to having fun.

Please vote for us to enable the girls to experience lots of new ways to be active in 2018.
