Health and wellbeing

Funding level: £5,001 to £10,000

Description

We were the winners of the Hertfordshire County Council's "Innovation Fund" 2016. With this award, Music24 set up a community music therapy group for people within the community who live with dementia and their carers in Hoddesdon. Music therapy encourages and can improve social interaction, communication skills and self expression, helping to build and maintain relationships with loved ones. Activities include improvising using a wide range of musical instruments (rhythmic, melodic and percussion), singing familiar songs, dancing and song writing. Evidence from our previous music group suggests that active music making can support the health and well being at various stages of dementia and is also very important for the wellbeing carers as well. If successful, this funding will support the continue the group for a further year and to help it to flourish. In the first year of the group, we supported up to 30 in East Herts and believe we can reach many more.

We at Skeltons Wealth Management are so proud to support this worthwhile group, as there is very little like this in the area to provide support to both those living with dementia as well as their carers. This group really helps people to continue to thrive and live well together
