Community support

Funding level: £10,001 to £25,000

Description

Wigginton Grasshoppers is a thriving community football club based in the north of York. We are a charter standard club and have age groups from the under 5's right up to the under 19's. We also have 5 girls teams (and growing). Our senior team have last season finished top of the York Premier Division which we are very proud of. We are always looking to provide the community with more footballing options, two areas we are hoping to grow in the near future are Walking Football and Ladies Football. We are a passionate bunch with football and the community at heart.

As a club we are in the process of fundraising for a much needed four changing room community facility. We have recently met with the Football Foundation, FA, York City Council and the North Riding Football Association and they are all excited about the new development! The full application will go to the Football Foundation in July 2018 however it will be submitted earlier if we have our additional funding / grants already in place. Our football club currently have over 200 players registered who will all benefit from the new building. The building will also be open to the whole community which will be discussed in the next section of the application.

Our current facilities at the football club are extremely run down and don't allow for showers, a community area or up to date changing facilities. This is something that will be included at our new facility including on site disabled parking. As part of the construction of the new modular building we will also be improving our on site parking which is a key priority for the Wigginton Ward. The transformation of the area will also allow for at least an extra 40 spaces. The Football Foundation are now only funding projects on the Modular Framework where they are contributing at least 50% to projects like this. All parties mentioned above are fully supportive of our project and it is looking like it will be one of the first of its kind. The Football Foundation are very positive about this to the point where we will be gaining national coverage with the facility being a "flagship" for the new modular buildings. Our meetings with Haxby and Wigginton Parish Council have also proved invaluable and we have their full support. We are now going the through the process of completing the various stages to meet the Football Foundation requirements for funding.

Although the football foundation will be funding around 50% of the project, the pavilion will also be used by various other groups within the community which will maximise its usage. Within the pavilion will be a large community area which we will be advertising for use when the football teams do not require it. Usage in this area, for example, can be used by the bowls club (which are next to the football club) as well as petanque, squash and tennis. Many other groups operate in the area which will be invited to use the facility. We will also be offering the facility to organisations who may want to run qualifications and courses there e.g first aid, FA coaching, health and safety etc.

We hope that you will support our project and help us provide the facilities that our 200+ members, neighbouring sports clubs and local community deserve. The FA and Football Foundation are fully supportive of our project in which we hope to have built by October 2018.
