Description

The Shawclough Community Cycling project is designed to give young people in the community the opportunity to learn to ride or expand their riding skills in a safe way.

Members of the Shawclough Community Association utilise school grounds at weekend to give young people the opportunity to ride through a fun cycling course. For those that can't ride instructors are on hand to show them the basic of scooting and balancing where they then hopefully progress to the cycling course.

The aim of the project is to get young people active and get families involved in cycling as a family way to enjoy exercise. The area that the project serves is one of the most deprived in the UK where health and life chances are poor. By introducing whole families to cycling the hope is that these families become more active.

This is the first in a number of projects that the association wishes to get involved in. Children cycling is becoming a dying art we hope that this will also enable children the ability to ride to school thus reducing traffic round the school grounds.
