Community support

Funding level: Up to £1,000

The friends of Cherry Orchard Country Park runs a volunteer conservation group, which meets once a month in different areas of Cherry Orchard country park. The purpose is to maintain and manage pathways, ensure the area does not become overgrown, and keep the park clear of litter and other hazards. There are usually up to a dozen volunteers who carry out this very important task, with the support of the local district council. However the park is very large at over a 100 acres, and more assistance is required, both with additional labour and with equipment. You can find out more about the friends group on the website below:

This funding request is to provide additional gloves, rubble bags, trowels, forks, waterproofs, wellie boots, litter pickers, and power tools to assist the volunteer group.

We would also like to encourage additional native wildlife by providing and installing bird boxes, and insect boxes.

In certain areas, we would like to seed at the correct time of the year with native flowering wild flower, to encourage bees and other pollinators to the area.

We are also considering the employment of a qualified conservation team leader to lead the volunteer group on the monthly activity.

This request is scaleable depending on financing available.

Friends of Cherry Orchard Country Park

This is a fantastic small community group, focused on protecting the natural spaces in this particular area, which is fast becoming extremely developed and urbanized. All volunteers and committee members are unpaid, and membership is very modestly priced, with all funds raised spent on the park.
