Description

Longfleet Youth FC are an award winning Chartered Standard Community Football Club based in Poole. We operate a Football Futures Leadership and Volunteering programme which aims to recruit, retain, develop, reward and provide a progressive pathway for young leaders in order to develop a skilled football workforce. The youths are aged 14 to 18 and are encouraged to work with our teams with an age range of U3 - U16.

Regarding referee's, our youths on the Programme can gain their refereeing qualification at age fourteen and once these youths reach the age of sixteen they will be eligible to enter Dorset FA's Youth Referee Academy which will allow them to progress through the many levels of referee development.

Regarding coaching, our youths on the Programme will have the opportunity to attend regular training courses run both in house and by Dorset FA from the age of 14. From the age of sixteen, they will have the opportunity to complete their Level One Coaching Certificate and further football qualifications.

The aim of this training is that at age 18 the youths will be fully qualified and experienced to be able to take on their own teams within the Club, ensuring we can continue to provide football opportunities for players of all ages in the community.

This Programme clearly develops our youths and encourages them to remain in their chosen sport of football. The more youths that we can get on the Football Futures Programme will give a higher chance of keeping youths in the sport and also help to retain and set up new youth teams of all ages.

Longfleet Youth FC already have a Football Futures Coordinator that deals with the Football Futures in house application process and then liaises with the youths, their parents and team managers in order to place the youths in suitable coaching placements within the Club. Once a youth has been given a placement they then attend weekly training sessions with the team.
The Programme Coordinator also works with the Clubs Football Futures Coaching Manager who holds a Level Two Coaching Certificate. They organise regular in house training for all youths on the Programme, and also ensure that the training is tailored to the individual needs of each youth.

In addition to the in house training youths are encouraged to attend training sessions and CPD (Continued Professional Development) events run by Dorset FA. These sessions cover many topics and are aimed at Team Managers and Coaches but our Football Futures Youths have been invited to join these sessions to gain valuable experience and knowledge.

The success of this project has already been seen in many ways but we are looking for funding to place our increased number of youths within the scheme on education courses and access different ways of enhancing their development, both as coaches/referees and as individuals.

Longfleet Youth has 14 youths that are registered on the Programme. They have helped enabled us to set up our current Under 6 team, as the coaching team includes two of the Youths from the Programme. Without their support the team would not be able to train. Two of the youths have already gained their refereeing qualifications and regularly referee for Club games and are also appointed by the FA to referee in local league games.

Also, the youths have represented the club in community events such as, Poole Park Fun Days, Branksome Recreation Residents Association Fete Days, Dorset County FA organised events, Club presentation and fundraising days. These youths are fantastic role models and also assist us within our Longfleet Youth FC Players Committee, which is a focal group for players to have 'a voice' and discuss all aspects of the club.

Funding received will assist us with placing our Football Future youths on FA Level 1 coaching courses, Futsal courses, completing CRC's for youths age 16+, complete psychometric profiling and print handbooks/manuals to be used to monitor the youths progress.

Longfleet Football Club

We believe that this project, by providing appropriate training and giving the youths the experience and qualifications, will have a lasting impact on the amount of youths that remain in the sport of football, as well as enhance football participation within the community. We are so proud of them!
