Skills for life

Funding level: £1,001 to £5,000

Heaton Cricket Club is a community sports club based in Bolton. HCC provides facilities for adult and junior cricket for 8 teams with over 150 playing members; there are also rounders teams, table tennis and darts teams who use our outfield and clubhouse facilities as well as a wide range of community users such as Bridge club, Flower societies, Women's Institute. HCC also has over 250 social members who enjoy the facilities of our social club and bar area which includes a room-hire facility
HCC has over the past 2 years initiated a wide-ranging fundraising programme to improve and upgrade our playing and social facilities. Funds have been raised via commercial sponsorship, donations, social activities and external grants. We have successfully built a two-lane permanent net facility to assist with coaching and development of our cricketers; refurbished our ladies toilets and purchased roll-on roll-off covers for our cricket square.
Bolton has a well-established and well regarded local cricket league in which our junior and senior cricket teams participate. In common with many amatuer sports clubs we face many challenges from falling membership and participation levels. To combat these difficulties HCC is dedicated to improving our facilities, experience and development of our younger players in particular. Our dedicated team of volunteers focus very strongly on our prestigious junior section. Recent successes have included 3 Lancashire cup winning junior teams in the last 6 years and most recently two of our juniors attaining professional positions with Lancashire CCC and Leicestershire CCC respectively. Development of our own youngsters is the single-most important aspect of our plans as it is the only sustainable way of maintaining our ability to put out 3 Senior teams on an ongoing basis.
Within the past month we have completed the £30,000 investment in a permanent 2 lane net facility as the cornerstone of our development policy. We were supported in this by way of a grant of £22,000 from Viridor Community fund with the balance provided by members and various fund raising activities including 10k runs, race evenings, raffles, bag-packing at local supermarkets. To enable our coaches to provide high quality junior coaching we need to purchase a bowling machine to assist in technical training for our juniors. We require assistance with funding of a Bola Bowling machine; the retail price of this machine is £2,278 inclusive of VAT.
