Inclusivity

Funding level: £1,001 to £5,000

Description

Centrepieces exists to promote mental health recovery through the arts, providing opportunities for people to participate in art activities and to exhibit and sell their work. It also tries to promote a better understanding of mental health to the wider public.

Our mission statement is: “To help adults within the local community who have mental health issues to improve their well-being and achieve better social inclusion through art.”

Centrepieces has worked actively within the Bexley area for many years to encourage the arts both with 2-dimensional artwork and sculpture. We have been and currently are involved in various public artwork projects within a multitude of settings and events.

We are based in The Lodge building of Hall Place, which belongs to London Borough of Bexley. Hall Place’s beautiful gardens are some 65 hectares in size, and open to the public free of charge. It is one of the most popular open spaces in the borough.

Our project idea is to install a plinth in the grounds of Hall Place, similar in idea to the famous Fourth Plinth of Trafalgar square, where our home-grown artists can display their sculptures to the public on a rotary basis.

London Borough of Bexley has kindly agreed to let us use a large, beautiful old mill stone from the site and brickwork to build the plinth. They have also agreed a popular spot for us to put the plinth where it can be enjoyed.

The North West Kent Countryside Partnership, a non-for-profit community green space organisation that is also based at Hall Place, has agreed to support us in this project by providing volunteers to help install the plinth, publicise it and organise a celebration event to launch the project.

We are proud to be working on a project that not only celebrates the artistic talent of the local area, but that helps to increase awareness of mental health issues and to remove stigma. Our charity is entirely volunteer-run and this is a fantastic opportunity to shout about what they do.
