Funding level: Up to £1,000

Description

We are looking for funding to support our Performance Troupe, a group that includes some of the most talented and hard-working students that attend the Anna Fiorentini Theatre & Film School.

The Anna Fiorentini Theatre & Film School, which is a not-for-profit organisation, opened in 2001 as a Prince’s Trust Business. Since then it has won multiple Business of London Awards and has a growing reputation within the performing arts industry. Our guiding principle is to provide a safe, supportive environment for all young people to explore the performing arts, whether they have dreams of entering the profession or simply wish to use the performing arts classes to learn some valuable life-enhancing skills.

All of our students take part in our regular singing, drama and dance classes, but a select group – the Performance Troupe – attend extra rehearsals each week. They use this time to build up a repertoire of songs, dance routines and musical theatre numbers that they perform at events across the city.

Being part of the Performance Troupe allows children and teenagers of diverse backgrounds to express themselves through the performing arts, as well as get regular physical exercise. Although the rehearsals often provide a welcome break from school work, being part of the Troupe also teaches students the discipline and teamwork needed to work together as a successful company of performers.

But this project does not only benefit our students, it also provides a great source of joy to the people they put on their shows for. The Performance Troupe regularly performs at venues like hospitals, hospices, schools, museums and homes for the elderly, as well as taking part in charity fundraisers. This way, the Troupe has been able to have a positive impact on their local community. ‘Patients talked about the Performance Troupe’s ability to spread the Christmas cheer for days after’, was a comment from Homerton University Hospital after the Troupe performed to patients on the ward in the lead up to the holidays.

We would love for the Troupe to be able to perform in more places, but at the moment we are unfortunately limited to venues that can provide us with a sound system, as we do not have one of our own. We believe that the Troupe could particularly make a positive impact in those places that do not have the funds to afford this kind of equipment, which is why we’re very keen to purchase our own. Please help us spread the joy of song and dance even further and vote for us!

I’m proud of how inclusive this organisation is. We give children from lower income and ethnically diverse backgrounds the opportunity to express themselves through performance, and to start building the experience needed to become professional performers.
