Health and wellbeing

Funding level: Up to £1,000

Description

St Mark's S&PA raise funds throughout the academic year in order to enhance the educational experience of the children at the school. One of the focuses for this year is to raise funds for gym equipment - all of the children at the school (circa 420) have a weekly swim/gym session and the purchase of this equipment will allow the children to have a more varied and challenging gymnastics lesson when they are participating in the gym rotation. This will see an improvement in the skills the children gain (strength, flexibility, agility, co-ordination, balance and control) and also improve their engagement, interaction and motivation levels - overall improving their health and fitness. The benefits are not only from a physical health perspective but gymnastics has been found over the years to improve children's self-esteem, cognitive functioning (concentration and focus skills), discipline and social skills. For these reasons the gym lessons are considered to be a really important part of our children's education and the new equipment will increase the impact and enjoyment significantly.

The equipment we are looking to raise funds for will cost in the region of £2,400 plus VAT and includes gym apparatus such as a peg ladder, agility ladder, steel trestles, foam coaching blocks, agility mats and a gym bouncer. We have already made some progress in our fund raising efforts and would ask that the Aviva Community Fund consider funding £1000 towards our project.

St Mark's School and Parent's Association

St Mark's S&PA work hard with the parents and staff of the school to raise funds throughout the academic year in order to enhance the educational experience of the children. Additional gym equipment would really enhance the children's experience and benefits within their gym lessons.
