Community support

Funding level: £1,001 to £5,000

VSF matches volunteers to families where one or more children are suffering from neglect and are at risk of significant harm. The overall aim is to achieve positive outcomes for children and to keep families together.

Volunteering Matters’ volunteers provide support and encouragement to help families address the problems they face and ultimately assist them in creating a happy, stable and safe environment in which they can thrive. This volunteering resource complements the work of the local authority social care teams.

The needs of the family and the child are paramount in the provision of the services.

The objectives of the project are to:
• help support a child to come off and stay off a child protection plan/child in need plan;
• help support children so they can stay with their families;
• support and help families to effect positive change to turn unhappy, volatile and potentially dangerous homes into loving, stable and safe environments in which the whole family can thrive;
• introduce boundaries and routines into otherwise chaotic homes;
• reduce isolation and raise self-esteem
• provide identified families with a suitably trained and appropriately matched volunteer;
• develop a strong working partnership with the local authority safeguarding team;
• raise awareness of VSF within the social work teams;
• provide all volunteers with comprehensive supervision and a responsive support network;
