Community support

Funding level: Up to £1,000

Chudleigh Baptist Church has recently taken out a lease on premises in Chudleigh to create a hub where members of the community can access advice and services from organisations such as the Citizens Advice Bureau, Christians Against Poverty (debt counselling) and our local Children's Centre. The hub will be a drop-in centre where these services and others are available in response to local demand. The hub is based at 1 The Square in the town of Chudleigh. Chudleigh is a small market town with a population of about 4,500 people.

1 The Square is not a Church building. Whilst members of the Church are getting the Project going, the services on offer will be open to everyone in the community and the building and the garden will be used for a wide-range of activities. This funding application is about the garden which is next door to the building. We are currently restoring the garden to create a space where those accessing services within the building can also make use of the adjacent garden. We are hoping to create a colourful, well-cared for space within the middle of Chudleigh Town Centre. To make the garden fully accessible to all those using the building we would like funding to install a permanent access ramp. We would also like funding to carry out spring planting and provide a bench.

Moment of Pride

The Project is already being supported by a huge team of people but as we were clearing the overgrown garden lots of people asked what we are up to and as a result people have volunteered to donate time or equipment to the Project. I'm proud of the way the Project is bringing the community together.
