Health and wellbeing

Funding level: £5,001 to £10,000

Description

York House Centre is the youth, community and arts centre for Stony Stratford and the surrounding area. The building and grounds are used by a wide variety of different groups representing all sectors of our community including youth clubs, health & well-being groups, self-help groups, learning & work groups for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism, youth drama classes, baby & toddler groups and many more... We also run popular community arts projects such as the Stony Stratford Lantern Project and Big Draw events and we have a successful Community Gardens Project in our grounds.
The aim of the 'Outside is for Everyone!' project is to make our outside spaces fully accessible for all our users and to encourage outside activities, including sports. We have been very lucky to be chosen by an international company who have their headquarters in Milton Keynes, to enter into a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partnership. With their help for materials, contractors and 2 large-scale volunteer days, we have together made massive improvements to our grounds, including safe accessible paths, a new lawned area, a decking stage for events and seating and an astro-turfed area for sports and outdoor activities.
We need your support to secure funding to improve the access to our astro-turf area (so that it is accessible for all our users) and to complete the installation of sports netting to prevent errant balls from causing damage to our Community Gardens and our neighbours! The astro-turf is already used by many of our user groups, particularly our 2 Youth Clubs, but the completion of the netting will attract new users to the centre (e.g. children's soccer camps) and ensure that other areas of the gardens can be safely enjoyed whilst the astro-turf is being used for sports activities.
