Community support

Funding level: £5,001 to £10,000

We have been broadcasting for over 65 years. We currently use 1386AM and landline. Our studio and equipment is over twenty years old and equipment and accommodation is in need of upgrading. We broadcast music and information to patients and staff at our hospital and Claire House (children's hospice) and St Johns (hospice). Our link with our community has become important for information, entertainment and well being. This improves recovery from illness or surgery and encapsulates a belonging to an organisation for those who are very unwell to which they have control. The application for funds will renew equipment to ensure the service continues. The physical refurbishment will provide a fresh and modern environment for our visitors, the majority of whom are our listeners. In detail we would require, a digital mixer, the software to run the equipment and provide the platform to broadcast to our community. The studio will need soundproofing to walls, carpeting and paint. Our organisation provides a training platform for journalism. A number of members have moved on in a career to broadcasting and journalism both print and radio. Our membership is in excess of thirty volunteers who give their time and expertise free of charge. Any income is from fundraising and we do ask our members to pay a subscription annually to qualify as a member.
