Community support

Funding level: Up to £1,000

St Philip’s Centre, Leicester is committed to a wide programme of training, public benefit activities and community engagement. This is reflected not only in the dialogues between different faiths, it’s so crucial in the process of building understanding, friendship and trust, but also in the active involvement of the Centre in community life.

In 2015 St Philip’s Centre worked with over 9,000 individuals and hundreds of organisations who wanted to learn more about faiths and faith communities.
The St Philips Centre are requesting funding towards their Inter-Faith Engagement Programme. They require artefacts for their Multi Faith Box which is used for teaching at school and college educational programmes. The Multi Faith box includes a good selection of artefacts that represent the six major faiths – Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism and Buddhism.

They have several resource boxes which they take in to help bring to life the learning but they need upgrading regularly because of wear and tear. To purchase a box is £500. In addition, they would require a further £100 to purchase items for some of the faiths/ beliefs that are now represented in the Leicester.

Their Trustees, Staff, Volunteers and Partners are constantly addressing the growing needs they are asked to resource and are extending their work to reach a further 2,500 people per year, of all ages and experiences, to enable them to be better informed, mutually tolerant and more likely to engage in productive relationships with faith communities in cities, towns and increasingly in rural areas. Because people are at the centre of their work, they have chosen to call for this drive for faith awareness

It is only through the dedicated work of the staff and volunteers that the education of the multi-faith work continues. Leicester is the second fast growing city in the country, it is essential that the community understand the needs of their neighbours to ensure that Leicester remains a vibrant multicultural city.
