Supporting the younger generation

Funding level: Up to £1,000

1st Dickens Heath Scouts are a new scout group having been introduced in May 2015 following identification of a gap of scouting activity within the Blythe/Cole region.

Scouts change lives by offering 6 – 25 year olds fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, everyday adventure and the chance to help others so that we make a positive impact in communities. We currently provide 4 group meetings per week and in the short time we have been active we have attracted a regular attendance of approximately 90 children between the ages of 6 and 14 years.
We were originally supported by the Scouting Association with a loan of £1000 to begin the group which has been used towards the costs of volunteer training, DBS checks and promotional activity. We have also undertaken bag packing at a local supermarket to raise funds and attended local fetes to raise awareness. The group is run entirely by volunteers. We are required to pay room hire in two local schools which is calculated at a cost of £75.00 per week for the sessions. Additionally we purchase resources to provide the children with activities each week whilst also providing a healthy snack. Each attendee pays £12.00 per month which contributes towards these costs and also provides the children with their toggle and neck tie, all their badges and activity resources.
We are keen to increase the level of activity the children can undertake including taking them on camping breaks and whilst we have received donations of some equipment in order to undertake outdoor activities with the children, the equipment is limited.
With this in mind we would very much appreciate it if you would consider a contribution towards the cost of camping equipment in order to provide the children with continued stimulating activity.
You are very welcome to come along and meet us and if you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
