Community support

Funding level: £1,001 to £5,000

Description

Pontardawe Town AFC is working hard to provide a football stadium for the community and the wider area. Pontardawe Town are a Welsh league Football club running 26 teams from the age of 6 years old to adult and including boys, girls, men and ladies.

Their existing ground is owned by the local authority and has suffered neglect to the extent where they have become embarrassed. The ground is regularly flooded, they do not have funding for general maintenance and recently the authority has made a decision to pull out of the local recreational provision and that leaves them unable to continue in the league at a Senior Level at the existing site. This leaves the whole club balancing on the edge of extinction.

That is the bad news ... the good news is that the very strong Pontardawe Town committee has committed to the new stadium project, is raising money, has a structure in place and phase 1 has now commenced. They have secured a lease for a new site, obtained phase 1 planning permission to create a basic stadium but so far the funds do not allow them to fund new changing facilities.

For Phase 2 they need to fund the purchase and installation of a new set of changing rooms and, in the meantime, repair existing changing facilities remote from the stadium which are closed due to internal damage as a result of poor maintenance by the local authority.

Ideally it would be great to have a community facility which is available for all including all of the football teams, the local schools and other community groups and sports teams can use. Pontardawe Town AFC have made a full commitment to building a venue the whole community can be proud of.

Pontaradwe Town AFC

We are proud of this project as we have seen the work and commitment from the club first hand. As a local broker we are always supporting the community where we can. To have the facilities that not only the football teams benefit from but the whole community would mean so much to the area.
