Supporting the younger generation

Funding level: £5,001 to £10,000

1st Bradley Stoke Scouts have increased its numbers in January by three new sections and now comprise ten different sections within the Group plus a partnered Explorer Group, meaning that we offer activities in Bradley Stoke for around 250 young people (and growing still further) between the ages of six and eighteen. With this expansion, the demand for the range of activities has increased.

We have asked our Young People and water based activities continue to be in the top five activities each section wishes to undertake. The activity encourages independence whilst growing in confidence as they move through more challenging activities. Currently we use a number of external providers which increases the cost, which makes it difficult for it to be accessed by all.

We are applying for kayaking equipment to expand the activities we offer. The equipment will be used throughout the year with outdoor use in the summer and a pool in the winter.

We are seeking £9,960 for 20 kayaks and supporting equipment for kayaking.
£404 x 8 (small), 8 (medium), 4 (large) = £8080
Spray deck £35 x 20 = £700
Paddles = £35 x 20 = £700
Air Bag = £12 x 40 - £480

We are separately obtaining safety equipment (e.g. life jackets and throw ropes) and have trained instructors in place. The routine maintenance of assets will come with our normal subscription and fundraising, as we do for all of our assets.

Having our own equipment will reduce current hiring or external provision, making the activity more affordable to our members.
