Supporting the younger generation

Funding level: Up to £1,000

Guiding is an organisation that's 105 years old and enjoyed by girls aged 5-18 worldwide. We move with the times and give the girls experiences and skills that will last a lifetime. Funding for new camp equipment, in particular a new kitchen tent, would allow the tradition of Guide camp to continue at St Aldhelms so that more and more girls can have the opportunity to experience camping with their friends in a safe environment - it’s likely that over 750 girls will remember camping all over the country in the tents that we currently use, including some of our leaders! On camp girls make memories that will last a lifetime as well as developing important life and social skills – for many it’s their first time away without their parents. Having been a Brownie, a Guide and a Ranger myself I have some incredible memories of Guide camp, from being flooded out of our tents at a jamboree in Ireland aged 12 to "milking" a rubber glove in a field for a badge then milking a real cow in Poland; singing campfire songs late into the night roasting marshmallows with some of my closest friends and not to mention being flooded out again(!) in Serbia last summer. I've made so many incredible, lasting friendships over the years with Guides and Scouts all over the country and all over the world. Being able to provide girls with opportunities and experiences like the ones that I’ve had is something that is really special and seeing how the girls grow so much from just one week at Guide camp really is amazing. I’m proud to say that Guiding has made me who I am today and with your help we can give more and more girls opportunities and memories that they’ll never forget.

Moment of Pride

On camp seeing the things that the girls can achieve: whether it’s a girl on their first camp or a girl on her last they always do their best and amaze themselves with their acheivements, by doing so they make us as leaders proud both of them and of ourselves that we’ve given them that opportunity.
