Description

Building for the future, proudly supported by Finch Commercial Insurance Brokers
When a group of mums with disabled children met in 2007, they struggled to find somewhere suitable to take them along with their able bodied siblings
They decided to take matters into their own hands and set up a charity to raise funds to provide a one of a kind facility suitable for all. A place which provides comfort and support for all the family as well as a place to socialise, play and enjoy new experiences.
The determination and passion of the mums involved with this project meant that in 2014 ‘Our House’ was officially opened by the Earl and Countess of Wessex. Situated in Wokingham, Berkshire, it is the only community centre for disabled children and their families and is used by people from the town and surrounding areas. The aim of the charity is to raise the profile of disabled children in the community. Every child is valued and is recognized as important, regardless of whatever challenges they may face. They currently provide support and activities for 300 families and 14 groups and are completely run by volunteers.
The Facilities at the centre include a sensory room, soft play area, chill-out zone for older children, relaxing parents room and they provide Saturday clubs were special activities are provided
The charity would really benefit from the £1000 to continue the very popular Saturday activity clubs which utilise the facilities of outside companies to provide new activities and experiences that the children would not usually be able to participate in. These can include exciting events such as a mobile farm coming to the centre, a mad scientist showing experiments and learning circus acts.
£1,000 from the Aviva community fund would help this charity continue the great work it has been doing providing a facility and the much needed support for the families involved.

Building for the Future of Disabled Kids

Moment of Pride

Finch Insurance Brokers Ltd chose Building for the future as their charity for 2015-2016 after meeting two of the mums who were integral in setting up the organisation. Their passion and determination shone through and make us realise how much we wanted our support to go to them.
