Supporting the younger generation

Funding level: £5,001 to £10,000

We are a long established and thriving scout group in Hampton, South West London. We are due to celebrate our 100th anniversary in 2016 and would like to kick off our next 100 years of support for the youth of Hampton by replacing our 70 year old (wartime) marquee that is now, we're afraid, showing its age!!

Hard to believe that it has lasted over 70 years, but when it is now put up and we can see the all too numerous holes and rips in the aged canvas - its useful life is at an end. We need a new, British made, replacement traditional canvas marquee that can hopefully provide us with service for another 70 years!!

As a group we cater for over 100 young people from beavers through cubs, scouts and explorers - ages 6 - 18, boys and girls from all and any background. We are proud to be a diverse and welcoming group that develops our young people into adults with strong character and a willingness to get involved and to help other people in the community.

For our anniversary next year we are planning a lot of events and hope to make contact again with all the thousands of people that were and are members of the group. Having a new marquee to house some of these events would be fantastic, especially if we can also purchase lighting enabling events in the evenings as well.

One of the big events will be an anniversary family camp at which all of our members and their families will be able to get together and have a fun filled weekend of activities and camp fire songs etc. The camp this year is set to have over 120 people there and we are hoping for even more in 2016 - without a new marquee it would be very difficult to have somewhere for everyone to sit and eat - our old would not be big enough and would not keep us dry.

We are looking to buy a large maquee made from quality materials from a well established English tent company and some lighting and a generator that could be used inside. With an award of upto £10,000 we would also be able to purchase a couple of smaller, modern, heavy duty PVC Gala Tents that would supplement the main marquee and give us flexibility to cater for different size events.

Scouting is alive and well in Hampton and if we were fortunate enough to get the funds from Aviva for the marquees and lighting etc we would not only be able to look foirward to large events with confidence we would also be able to support other local community groups by making the equipment available for use by the wider community, as we have done before.

Please help us with this request scouting is a voluntary, self funded organisation and we put a lot of effort and time into raising funds to keep the group viable. In addition to needing the new marquees we are also in need of a complete overhaul of our existing kitchen which has no oven and has 25 year old, second hand units which, like the marquee, are in need of replacement. If we were successful with the Aviva funds then all our funds from Jumble Sales etc can be used to enlarge and refit the kitchen - allowing us to have a kitchen fit for use by all our members and large enough to cater for 150 plus people.

Please give us your support

Moment of Pride

Put simply I feel proud:-
when I see the joy on the faces of young and old taking part in scout activities, when
I see people of all ages working together for a better future, when I see young people grow into valuable members of the community and develop life skills and self worth
