Supporting the younger generation

Funding level: £1,001 to £5,000

Little Actors Summer Performing Arts Course will run during the first week of August 10am-3pm each day. The course will offer drama, singing and dance classes for children aged between five and eleven. The week will culminate in a final performance for family and friends in the community. The project also offers mentoring for teenage youth volunteers who work with the younger children to guide and support their work. The project intends to offer free places to children from low income families and also children eligible for Disability Living Allowance. The project will be professionally led in a rural community.

Twenty children can be accommodated in each group with a total of up to forty under 11s being accommodated. Plus the youth volunteers. At least 43-45 families will have affordable child care for the week whist the children learn useful skills and have fun during the summer. Plus the community benefits from professionally led arts activities in the heart of the area.

The project will comprise two classes. One for infants and one for juniors. The children will start the day with a dance and voice warm up. They will work on a song and dance routine. In the afternoon they will have drama workshops leading to a performance. All ideas are taken from the children to give them ownership of the creation of the material. The professional actors who facilitate the workshops ensure the children's work is developed and presented.

As well as the two professional facilitators, adult volunteers would help with the running of the project during the week. They will have suitable child protection vetting in place.

The summer course incurs fees for those not eligible for the free places, however, costs are discounted to ensure affordability for parents. Fees will be used to cover overheads of the charity such as office space, accounting fees, insurance, administration time and resources etc. Fees will be charged at £55 for the week as oppose to the commercial rate of £75 to ensure affordability.

LATC is requesting funding to cover the specific project costs:
2 x Facilitators @ £500 per week = £1000
Room hire - two rooms at the Neston Community and Youth Centre. 10% discount is applied by the venue.

Room 2 - 20 hours @ £10 = £200 - £20 = £180
Total £450
Performance venue - Neston Town Hall

Flyers/posters - £125

Total requested
Facilitators £1000

For £1800 the project can be delivered regardless of the level of fee revenue so if most children are on free places then the project will not be in jeopardy.
