Skills for life

Funding level: Up to £1,000

Who are we?
We are a PTA for Bilton Grange Primary School, a wonderful school in Harrogate North Yorkshire. We have been fortunate to be able to raise around £6,000 in each of the last three years with the generous support of our pupils, school team, parents, carers and local businesses. With this money we have provided playground equipment, new chairs for the pupils (this would have taken 11 years within the current school budget) and 16 iPads to bring the total iPads for the pupils in the school to 31.

A little bit about our school:
Our school is a larger than average primary school with 323 pupils on role.
Bilton Grange is a positive and lively place with a dedicated and caring team of staff and governors who have high standards and expectations of children. We are part of Yorkshire Collaborative Academy Trust, a multi academy trust.
We firmly believe for a child to truly flourish academically, socially and emotionally they need to feel secure and happy. Our school values and nurtures children as individuals, working in partnership with parents to ensure children reach their full potential.
Our pupils are encouraged to make informed decisions to take responsibilities for their actions and to work and play co-operatively within a vibrant yet well ordered environment.

What is our fundraising project?
Our school in common with many others is finding the constraints on funding resources increasingly challenging, there are difficult decisions to be made on how best to use their limited resources to the very best advantage of all the pupils. With technology increasingly at the core of so many aspects in our rapidly changing world, the school staff have been planning ways in which they can best support current and future pupils for a life and world of work where the jobs they enter may not even exist today.
What they would like to do is to be able to have an amazing touchscreen resource in each of the 11 classrooms. These Smartscreens are essentially the modern hi-tech equivalent of the blackboard - but so much more.
We have now set ourselves a huge target to be able to provide these Smartscreens in the next few years. Of course this comes at a cost and we have been quoted £3,300 per Smartscreen. We have manged to purchase 3 smartscreens so far for our 3 classes of year 5 and 6 pupils. We are now close to being able to purchase another 3 Smartscreens to equip our year 3 and 4 classrooms which is why we are applying for this £1,000 from the Aviva Community Fund, if received this will mean we have been able to equip all of our Key Stage 2 classrooms. The remaining 5 Smartscreens required will be purchased through our continued fund raising activities.

How would this help the younger generation?
Nowadays technology is at the core of many areas of life and work and will increasingly be so. These Smartscreens will allow the teachers to bring many additional teaching resources from the internet and various media direct into the classroom and allow the pupils of all abilities to interact and learn in a manner that helps them prepare for their future. The Smartscreens are configured in such a manner to allow them to boost interactive technology, increase effective group working and stimulate sharing of knowledge. The Smartscreens allow an interactive, contemporary learning method that fully embraces tomorrow’s top-notch technology today. These screens are under warranty for 7 years and are expected to last for 15 years, therefore at least 720 current and future pupils (and hopefully many more) will directly benefit if we can provide these items.

Please vote for our project, these children are the future of our community and the benefits of this project will be felt for many years to come. Please let each one of our pupils, no matter what ability, be given the very best chance to fulfil their individual potential.

Thank you for taking the time to find our more about us, our school and our awesome pupils.

Bilton Grange PTA

Our pupils are wonderful, full of life and enthusiasm. We would love to be able to help each individual achieve their full potential by providing them with the best educational resources we can and to give them the skills they will need for their future in an increasingly digital world.
