Submitting a project

Who can submit a project?

If you live in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, you can register and submit a project. Your project must be associated with a local community organisation or charity, but you don’t need to work for them.

For more information, please read our terms and conditions.

What makes a good entry?

Find out if your project is right for the Aviva Community Fund by asking these key questions:

Is it action-oriented?

Your project should ‘create’, ‘make’, ‘change’, ‘purchase’ or otherwise be intended for the greater good of the community.

Can you deliver it with the requested funding alone?

Ideally it should be possible for the project you enter to be delivered completely with the funds you’re applying for. Projects that don’t need additional funding will have a better chance of meeting the judging criteria than those relying on other funds being secured. We will fund ideas from four funding levels: up to £1,000, up to £5,000, up to £10,000 and up to £25,000.

Is it going to be well underway by the end of 2017?

Your project should be completed or well underway before 31 December 2017.

Is it based in the UK?

We’ll only fund projects that are going to be implemented within communities in the United Kingdom.

How do I upload a video to YouTube?

  1. Sign in to YouTube. If you don’t have a YouTube account you can easily set one up following this link: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/161805?hl=en
  2. Click the Upload button at the top of the page
  3. Before you start uploading the video, you can choose the video privacy settings
  4. Select the video that you'd like to upload from your computer or smartphone
  5. As the video is uploading you can edit both the basic information and the advanced settings of the video, and decide if you want to notify subscribers
  6. Click Publish to finish uploading a public video to YouTube
  7. If you haven’t clicked Publish, other people won't be able to view your video. You can always publish your video at a later time in your Video Manager

Can I save the submission form while I'm working on it?

Yes. You can save your project entry whilst you complete the submission form, so it doesn’t all have to be done in one go. You will be able to preview how your project will appear on the site when live, however, once your project has been submitted, you can't edit it. So please make sure your entry is as good as it can be before clicking that button. If you have any queries about your submitted project, please get in touch by emailing us at avivacommunityfund@charitiestrust.org or calling the helpline on 0151 284 1018.
For tips on creating a successful project submission, please read our Project guide (PDF 1MB).

What happens after I submit my project?

Once submitted, our team of moderators will review your entry to make sure it meets the eligibility requirements. Please note this moderation could take up to two working days, and longer towards the end of the submission window or if we need to get agreement from the supporting organisations.

When your project has been approved you will receive an email to let you know. You will then receive a unique URL to view your project on 20 October 2017. If your project isn’t approved during moderation, we will contact you to let you know why.

How can I promote my project?

There are lots of ways you can promote your project. Get in touch with friends, family and other supporters and ask them to vote. Use Facebook, Twitter, community events, the local press and any other way you can get attention. Encourage your supporters to spread the word too. You may wish to check with the organisation leading the project that they are happy for you to promote the project in this way.

More hints and tips coming soon!

Can I delete my profile?

Yes. You can delete your profile at any time by contacting us. Please be aware that any projects you have submitted may also be deleted.
